At a nearly empty hotel restaurant, two tables were occupied — guests waving, tapping glasses, holding up menus. Yet five waiters stood by the bar, laughing, scrolling through phones, oblivious. It was as if the guests didn’t exist.
Then the manager walked in. Calm, observant.
He asked, “What do we do here? ”Serve food?” one replied. “No,” he said. “We serve people.”
He approached a table, poured water, offered a recommendation, and quietly reminded everyone: hospitality isn’t about folded napkins or fancy uniforms. It’s about noticing, engaging, being present.
Within minutes, the staff snapped into action — but the message had landed.
Being present isn’t the same as paying attention.
In hospitality, silence is deadly. A guest ignored is a guest lost.
If you don’t want to care, don’t be here. Because this industry isn’t just about service — it’s about being hospitable. That’s the job. That’s the name.
Lets create some memories with our service guys and leave the Gizmos in the Locker Room ( HR- Hello!!)
